Monduli District Pilot Project

Dr. Arja Vainio-Mattila with members of a Maasai community

Meeting with community members

The purpose of the pilot in Monduli is to articulate communication strategies between institutions such as the university or government and a marginalized community in Tanzania.

A baseline study was conducted early 2009 in three villages of Sepeko Ward, Monduli District. Later in May 2009 a team from Huron joined IDS team members to determine the information needs of the Maasai community in those villages.

The Monduli case provides the opportunity to question how a marginalized community can participate in the poverty reduction processes.
