The Honours Specialization and Major modules in Political Science provide students with a strong foundation in all of the main subfields of the discipline. The Major in Political Science is designed for students who wish to have a good general background in political science, and the Honours Specialization offers the added advantage of permitting students to design their own specialized programmes through their choice of optional courses within the module. Both of these modules are structured to help students gain admission into virtually any graduate programme in political science either in Canada or abroad. The modules in Globalization and Governance, State and Policy, and Ideology and Identity are designed for students who wish to focus on a specific thematic area of political science, and will be of particular interest to those who wish to combine these modules with modules in other disciplines that focus on related or complementary themes.
Students taking modules in Political Science or Political Studies may wish to complete their degree requirements through taking courses at other universities in Canada and beyond, either through exchange opportunities or through letters of permission. Students anticipating such opportunities or requests should consult with the Chair of the Department as early as possible to ensure that the satisfaction of Political Science or Political Studies requirements is integrated into the student's overall degree planning.
