  • How are Huron and Western related?

    • Are all mature students admitted on a part-time basis?

    Yes. If you have been away from full-time academic studies for more than four-years, you will likely need some time to adjust to university. As such, Huron admits mature students to part-time studies only. Part-time students work on their degree by taking 3.0 or fewer course credits during the traditional academic year (Sept-Apr). Some also take 2.0 credits during the summer term to complete the full first year 5.0 courses. If after your first year, you would like to come to Huron on a full-time basis, you will need to consult with an academic counsellor when your first year final grades are available.

    When can I expect to receive an offer of admission from Huron?

    Admissions to Huron are completed on a rolling basis. This means that as soon as you have your documents to our office, we can consider your application. Usually it takes one to two weeks. Before we mail your admissions package, we will send you an email so that you know its coming.

    What documents will I need to send in for admissions consideration?

    If you have attended any post-secondary studies in the past five years, we will require official transcripts be sent to the Huron Admissions Office. Official transcripts are sent directly from the institution to Huron in a sealed envelope.
     
    A Statement of Activities form will also be required. It is required of all applicants who have been away from their studies for a period of six months or more.

    What if I didn't do very well in a university/college program but it was a long time ago?

    A Reconsideration of Admission form can be completed by any applicant who has experienced academic difficulty in the past.

    Is there a program that I can attend to help me get ready for university?

    Yes! The Ready for University! program at Western is designed specifically to help mature students who have been away from academics readjust to university life. You can take one or all of the modules including:

    Module 1: Becoming a Strategic Learner
    Module 2: Writing Effectively and Gathering Information Efficiently
    Module 3: Lectures: Before, During and After
    Module 4: Testing

    Huron also has a Mature Student Representative on the Huron Students Council (HUCSC) who is available a couple times per week for consultation and discussion.

    Are there programs that I can't be directly admitted to?

    As a mature student, you can be admitted to any first year program.

    Is there a deadline to respond to an offer of admission?

    Yes. Your response due date will be noted on your offer of admission.

    How and when will I pick my courses?

    In your offer of admission, there will be information about accepting your offer of admission. After you have accepted your offer, you should make an appointment with an academic counsellor.     Can I take courses at Western or at another affiliated university college?

    As a Huron part-time student, you can take up to 1.0 courses per year at Western or at King's or Brescia. As a full-time student, you can take 2.0.

    How are Huron and Western related?

    Huron University College is an affiliate of Western University. This means that Huron students have access to all of the facilities, health services, libraries, academic services, athletics and clubs that are offered to Western students while still enjoying the close-knit living and learning environment offered by Huron. Huron students can take up to 2.0 courses every year at Western and can even complete a double major with a Huron program and a Western program. In the end, Huron students graduate with a degree from Western University with a Huron distinction.
