Athletics and Recreation

The University of Western Ontario offers a wide range of "recreation programs and services that inspire the diverse University community to live an active and healthy lifestyle" (Campus Recreation Mission, 2006). Students may choose from a variety of aquatics, fitness/wellness programs, intramural sports, club sports or take instruction in a new recreation.

Huron students gain free membership to utilise the UWO facilities, including squash courts, racquetball court, pool, fitness facilities (Cardio Annex), aerobics classes, gymnasia and weight room.

Campus Recreation Facility

UWO's new $34 Million recreation facility is linked to the Thompson Recreation and Athletic Centre. The building houses expanded facilities for student recreation activities and include:

· five gymnasiums
· three dance/multipurpose studios
· 50-metre swimming pool
· expanded fitness and weight training facilities
· recreational squash courts
· locker rooms and
· administrative offices

Huron students who are interested in playing varsity sports may also join one of the many Western Mustangs teams. Further details regarding recruiting, tryouts and coaching can be found on the Mustangs website.
