Theology Convocation takes place on Thursday, May 10 in the Kingsmill Room at 4:30 pm. Huron students will be receiving the Master of Divinity and Master of Theological Studies degrees.
The Doctor of Divinity Degree (jure dignitatis) will be conferred on the Reverend Susan Johnson, National Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada who will address Convocation.
Following Convocation, a reception will be held in Huron's Great Hall to honour our graduates and honorary degree recipient.
Bio for the Reverend Susan Johnson
Born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, National Bishop Susan C. Johnson is the daughter of the Rev. Donald and Lois Johnson and comes from a long line of pastors on both sides of her family.
From 1981 to 1988 Johnson worked as a high school music teacher in the Coquitlam School Board in British Columbia. After receiving her Master of Divinity degree from Waterloo Lutheran Seminary School in 1992, she served as pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church in London followed by working as Assistant to the Bishop, Eastern Synod of the ELCIC and in 2007 as Commissary.
In June 2007, the National Convention of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC) elected the Rev. Susan C. Johnson to serve as National Bishop.
Reverend Johnson’s community experience includes various roles in advisory and executive capacities on The Lutheran World Federation Council and serving as an Honorary Ecumenical Canon for the Dioceses of Niagara from 2003 to the present. She has also been actively involved in a wide variety of boards and committees at the national and synodical level.
