Mary Maroney thrives on the road less travelled. A fourth year student studying Chinese Language and East Asian Studies at Huron, Mary hopes to teach English in Taiwan upon graduation. Huron appealed to Mary because of its small classes, personal touch and historic background.
"As you walk through the halls, pathways and buildings of Huron, you get a sense of history," says Mary. "You can imagine students from years passed encountering the same experiences as you and you know you are part of something bigger."
"At Huron, student ambition is huge! My classmates want to work in a village in Africa or be Prime Minister of Canada," says Mary. "Students at Huron are encouraged to 'think big.'"
Mary's major in East Asian Studies allows her to study a wide range of topics unique to Huron's programs. "You can explore Japan through film, study China through short stories then apply all this to real life by going on international exchange," she says. Mary spent her third year studying on exchange at Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) in Beijing, China. "My classes at Huron inspire me to not only learn more about other cultures, but explore them for myself."
