You feel like your professors are involved in what they're teaching you. (Bretton Dabous)

Global studies is a natural fit for third year student, Bretton Dabous.

"I love politics, international relations and humanitarian work. I enjoy volunteering and working with different people in different communities. Travel is something I have always wanted to make a bigger part of my life, so getting into a field like global studies where I'm going to have international opportunities when I graduate just makes sense."

Dabous first learned about Huron by researching opportunities to study global and international issues at various universities. He says, "The program at Huron looked amazing and it has been. I made the right choice."

After three years at Huron, Dabous has grown to appreciate the sense of community Huron offers. "It has a high school feel because you see the same people around and the professors know your name. Everything is small and very tight-knit. It's really easy to get to know the faculty and students and to get involved."

He is especially impressed with the caliber of his professors. "My professors have been amazing. They are very educated in their field and are continuously doing field work and research. You feel like your professors are involved in what they're teaching you."

Dabous is an active member of the Habitat for Humanity club at Western. "That is what's great about Huron," he says. "It's great being as closely connected to Western as we are because we have access to the benefits such a large school provides while remaining a Huron student." He organized this year's Habitat for Humanity club trip to New Orleans during reading week, leading a team of 29 students which included six from Huron.

Dabous embarks on exchange to Denmark this fall. He is grateful for the opportunities the Centre for Global Studies has provided. "It's a really rewarding field to study. It feels important. It is important."
