At a time when you are asking the really big questions in life, the Chapel offers you a safe place to listen, explore and experience faith in a context that is geared toward the inquiring mind and the open heart. The Chaplain is available for counsel, direction, support and encouragement and is also responsible for the conduct of worship at the Collegiate Chapel of St. John the Evangelist, Huron University College. The Chaplain, Fr. William Cliff, comes to Huron University College with 15 years experience in parish ministry and work with youth and young people in the church. No matter what religious tradition you know, or even if you don't know a religious tradition at all, the Chaplain's office is here to help. Other faiths are respected, and the Chaplain can connect students with religious leaders from their own traditions if they are in need.
Life at the Chapel of St. John the Evangelist is made up of all people in the University Community, students, faculty, and members of the university support staff, and are all invited to take part in the opportunities offered by the Chapel community.
We offer:
The Chaplaincy offers many different program opportunities through the year, some of which are mentioned below:
Pint and a Passage is an informal bible study for members of the Huron Community who want to meet together over lunch and discuss the readings that are coming up in church. We meet weekly (each term we find the best time for everyone) in the food court at Huron, or in one of the pubs (YES! One of the pubs....where do you think we get our pints from?) on campus.
Please see Bulletin Board outside the Chapel or contact the chaplain for information.
Bible StudyGathering in a small group we work our way through a bible study either based on themes, or by working our way through a singular book of the Bible. All are welcome to join in this group, which meets when schedules of those interested can best be accommodated. Check with the Chaplain for times.
Culture or Media StudyThis year we will be using the Screwtape Letters by C. S. Lewis. In this study we will have a public reading of each letter in the Screwtape Letters followed by a discussion on the themes presented. Please check the Chapel Board for details.
The Campus Ministry CentreThe Campus Ministry Centre is available to all those who wish to register to be a member. It is a dedicated space for those students who identify themselves as active members of Campus Ministry or are friends of the Campus Ministry at Huron. Located immediately above the Information Desk, it has couches, a computer linked to the internet, Bibles, a fridge, a microwave and other amenities that make it the "living room" of those active in Campus Ministry. Students only need approach the Chaplain for a key and one will be issued. It is a student focussed space which is used for watching movies, doing homework, relaxing with friends, praying or engaging in bible studies.
Baptism / Confirmation / WeddingsThese services are scheduled as needed in the College Community. More extensive information is available about Weddings in St. John's Chapel. Please contact the Chaplain's office for further details.
Baptismal requests, as well as Confirmation classes, religious education and discussion groups are formed as needed. Please feel free to contact the Chaplain for information regarding these services of the Church.
