After a visit to the annual Ontario University Fair in Toronto, Kyah Schumacher realized that Huron University College had a lot to offer within a small community.

While the small class sizes were appealing, for this Dual Degree Global Studies and Business student, the chance to pursue two degrees in five years was an exciting opportunity. “I would say that for me the most appealing aspect was the program itself. “ Coupled with a stimulating classroom experience was the community Huron provides. “Being able to interact in your classroom and have access to all the facilities at Western University’s campus are absolutely wonderful.”

“Huron is special to me because of the engaging classes and the community, but also because it is an affiliate of Western University. It’s an integral part of Western. We have access to everything at Western but at the end of the day Huron is your family and you’re really welcome.”

Actively involved in numerous extracurriculars, Kyah highlights that Huron is a place that encourages students to pursue their passions in all arenas. “The great thing about Huron is there are so many opportunities for you and it’s really a ‘doing’ place,” she says. “This was attractive to me because I don’t really like to sit down and just let things come and think, maybe I’ll do something, maybe I won’t.”

Kyah is quick to point that combining Global Studies and Business provides preparation for numerous options without closing any doors. Interested in working in global food logistics and sustainability, this 3rd year student provides words of encouragement for prospective students. “Just get out of your room and do as much as you can. Every aspect of Huron is yours, and everyone is here for you, so do your best and you can create all the opportunities you want.”
