After hearing about Huron from several alumni, 3rd year Political Science student Hunter Doubt decided to take advantage of this institution’s small classes. The benefits of this decision are reinforced daily: “I love that I decided to come here.”

In spite of the fact that Hunter is from London, it was clear that living in residence was something he wanted to experience. He saw it as a great way to meet new people and responded well to the social atmosphere. And while he acknowledges this choice came with added costs, Huron was there to provide help. A recipient of the Principal’s Award and the Entrance Scholarship, Hunter describes this institution’s scholarship program as “a huge advantage.”

After an extremely positive experience in residence, Hunter decided to take advantage of this opportunity. “I could have lived at home and not paid any costs, but I thought I want to do something different; I want to help Huron out. Huron had me inspired.” After seeing the difference an involved, empathetic residence Don can make in a student’s life, he knew this was a challenge he was up for. “It is a full-time commitment, but the friends you make doing it and the things you learn being a leader will just help you down the road.”

Along with his duties as a Don, Hunter was also the Academic Commissioner on the Huron University College Students’ Council and will study abroad during his 3rd year. Nevertheless, Hunter’s ties to Huron remain strong. “The best thing about being a Huron student is that you’re part of a smaller community,” he says. “You get all the advantages of a large university, but you can always come back to that home base with all your friends. There’s really nothing like it.”
